Ashley Clarke is an Audience engagement editor for the Center for Public Integrity where she believes journalism is a powerful tool to connect people from all walks of life. She also has a passion for human rights and is currently involved in efforts to end poverty.

She has a BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary and has previously worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Health and Performance working on various projects around osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. She has also studied Preventative Medicine abroad at the University of Exeter where she gained clinical experience treating adults and children along a spectrum of disabilities. Ashley is a film programmer and critic. She has curated film series at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and has written for publications including the New York Times, 4Columns, Film Comment, Sight and Sound and Vulture. Her first book, Facing Blackness: Media and Minstrelsy in Spike Lee’s Bamboozled (The Critical Press, 2015), was accompanied by a tie-in series at BAM. Originally from London, England, Ashley has also spoken on film programming and criticism at NYU, Columbia University,

Rider University, the BAM Young Critics Program and the Brooklyn Museum. She is the author of a semi-regular column on nonfiction film for Field of Vision’s Field Notes and has moderated numerous panels and Q&As.
